The Most Important Step
What is the most important step in reaching your goal? Taking the first one. Obvious but rarely taken, the first step is a crucial one because it will set you up for the rest. Imagine stepping up to the line of a big race. The gun goes off, “BANG!” The race begins. Instead of taking the first step, you freeze. Contemplating every step before you. "What if this, what if that?". If you are frozen with FEAR and do not take the first step, what are the odds you make it to the finish line? You probably won’t. Not at that rate anyway. F.E.A.R based excuses we would call them. You will never reach your goals if you hesitate to take action to move toward them (to take that first step). Much like the race, you will never finish it if you do not start. So why is it that so many people fail to take action on their goals?
F.E.A.R & Excuses
How many times has your mind run rampant with all of the things that could possibly go wrong in a given situation? The scenarios are truly endless. The what-ifs never truly answered. We convince ourselves we don't have enough time, money, energy, focus, control. That we aren't good or strong enough (I could go on). We freeze on the line. “Knee cap” ourselves and our goals before they even get out of the gate.
The thoughts of inadequacy are rooted in one thing. F.E.A.R. False Events Appearing Real. We give our precious time to false thoughts that tell us we are inadequate until we convince ourselves they are true. We allow the excuses to pile up until we are buried. Paralyzed by our own thoughts. These thoughts soon turn into the EXCUSES mentioned above (not enough time, energy, so forth. Excuses that serve no other purpose other than to hold you back from reaching your goal. Excuses that will convince you to wave the flag before you have even given yourself a chance.
I'm here to tell you to not give F.E.A.R the time it needs to generate excuses. Take action on your goals before FEAR has a chance to begin its vicious cycle. The more time you allow your FEAR thoughts to breathe the larger they get. THIS IS WHY ACTING AND ACTING NOW IS CRUCIAL. NOT LATER. Imagine allowing something like this to breathe for days, weeks, months...How likely will you act on your goals then?
